History

Located at Queensway and Islington, around the corner from the Gardiner Expressway, AirMagic Special Effects continues to be the leader in providing special effect solutions for performance and events in Toronto, Southern Ontario and across the country.

Incorporated in 1988 by founder Mark Fine, in a basement in Little Italy, AirMagic has grown from a boutique pyrotechnics company into a full service special effects provider. After nine years at King and Bathurst, we moved into our 6000 square foot headquarters in July 2001, where we remain Toronto’s 'go-to’ special effect experts.

Mark is known nation-wide as a pyro and special effects expert – teaching Special Effects seminars at Ryerson University and Humber College, working with the Explosives Regulatory Division in their pyrotechnic certification programs and growing AirMagic into what it is today.

AirMagic offers a full-range of services - Consultation, Design and Production, long and short term Rentals, Sales, and Service. With our shelves stocked with state-of-the-art equipment and consumables, and our amazing staff of experts, we meet the retail, rental and full production needs of theatre, film, television, fashion and sports as well as corporate and special events.

At AirMagic, meeting or exceeding safety regulations and standards is paramount. Our staff are highly trained, certified, and fully insured and strive to maintain our high standards. Over the years we have established strong relationships with a host of regulatory bodies - ERD, TSSA, Municipal Fire Departments - and Venues around the province and across the country.

Services

Live performance is AirMagic’s specialty and our passion.

Our special effects have graced the stages of every theatre in Toronto, and at regional theatres throughout Ontario and across Canada - from Mirvish Productions, Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet to the Stratford Festival. We've shot rose petals with Cirque Du Soleil and pyro with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Fireworks solutions in urban settings - rooftops, parking lots, marquees etc. right in the heart of the city - remains one of our many specialties.

Our

FireOne™

firing system, “the world's most advanced digital fireworks firing system and choreography system” allows us to create and program breathtaking Pyro and Fireworks displays, on stage or outdoors, with choreographed cues as fast as 100th of a second.

We've worked the concert stages from the ACC and the Rogers Centre to Fallsview Casino and Casino Rama.

From Rick Mercer to Canada's Got Talent, Marilyn Denis to So You Think You Can Dance Canada, we've helped create magic moments with CBC, CTV, Global and City TV.

In the Sports world, we've teamed up with the Raptors, TFC, Ti-Cats, and Toronto Rock. We’ve shot confetti for the Fifa Under 20 and CO2 for Monster Trucks.

We've been at the Santa Claus Parade, New Year’s Eves from City Hall to Niagara, the Pope's visit, Liberal and Conservative conventions, victory parades, Christmas tree lightings, grand openings, ground breakings and marathons.

In the corporate world we've worked with everyone from Honda to Holt Renfrew, Mattel to Nortel, Sears to Sony, Amway to American Express.

We've animated giant billboards, shot bottles of soda for Mountain Dew, and made Brides, Grooms and VP's appear and disappear.

Licenses and Permits

All Pyrotechnics and Fireworks, shot indoor or out, require a licensed provider, permits, insurance, etc. Propane is provincially regulated in Canada. In Ontario, the TSSA inspects and approves each and every application and installation. Our experienced staff are licensed and insured and our office coordinates and obtains all permits required.
