Fireworks Safety

  • Keep all spectators at a safe distance.
  • Make sure that the area is clear of all obstructions, such as overhead wires and trees.
  • Use fireworks away from buildings and dry grass.
  • Store fireworks in a cool dry place.
  • Read the instructions on each fireworks item. Different items have different firing instructions.
  • Check wind direction, and angle the fireworks away from the spectators, about 10 degrees off of center. Do not shoot fireworks in high winds.
  • Do not shoot fireworks out of glass or metal containers.
  • Fill a wheelbarrow, or buckets, with sand to make a good launching base. Bury long items half their length in the sand. Remember to read the instructions first.
  • Light fireworks one piece at a time.
  • Do not let children under 18 years of age set off the fireworks.
  • Never attempt to re-light a misfire fireworks item. Keep a bucket of water, or a hose handy to douse such items. If an item does not light easily or fizzles out, do not approach the item for 15 minutes. Soak in a bucket of water overnight and dispose of in the morning.
  • Except for sparklers, do not hold the fireworks items in your hand. Take care in handling sparklers even after they are done burning. They are still very HOT. Never use any type of fireworks including sparklers indoors or on birthday cakes.
  • Do not put fireworks in your pocket, do not throw them or point them at anyone.
  • DO NOT SHOOT FIREWORKS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS!
